During an investigation into an accident on a San Diego roadway, a California Highway Patrol officer was shot and a suspect was brought into custody.
Around 6:15 p.m., the eight-year-old cop was shot in the right thigh after a confrontation with a “pedestrian.”. CHP Captain Michael Harris said at a nightly news conference when he investigated a collision on eastbound Interstate 8 in the Mission Valley neighborhood.
“Good Samaritans” helped subdue a 25-year-old San Diego suspect, Harris said, and the officer was hospitalized in critical but stable condition.
“We’re all hoping for a quick and complete recovery,” he remarked.
One man told CUSSI-TV that he used his sweatshirt and officer’s belt to stop the bleeding.
Other details about the shooting were not immediately released.
The highway was closed for hours after the firing.
